Surveillance Law Gets Rap from ACT
The ACT Party expressed its decision not to support legislation for the surveillance law under urgency, as this will cause the Supreme Court’s decision on the Uruwera case delay in carrying out.
“We believe that this legislation, as proposed by the Government, would have serious consequences and we advised the Government this afternoon that we would like it subjected to an urgent select committee hearing,” said ACT Parliamentary leader John Boscowen
Tensions over the much publicized Uruwera case spilled over when it was announced that all covert video surveillance used by law enforcers would be deemed inadmissible in a court of law. It resulted in the dropping of charges from 13 of 17 individuals charged during the raids.
